December 2024

Welcome to BrickXBrick Monthly, our home for news, events, and builds you might like to try at home!

Nativity scenes are displayed, all around the world, in December.

The familiar scene of the Baby Jesus in the manger with Mary and Joseph, sometimes with various animals, angels and wise men, now takes every conceivable form, but what is the history of the Nativity Scene and why would we build our own out of bricks?

In the year 1223 a humble Italian man who loved God, people, and nature wanted to bring the birth of Jesus alive to the people.  His idea was to create a live nativity scene and then talk to the people about the birth of Jesus as they encountered the scene.  He was the Friar Francisco (Francis) of Assisi, some know him as St. Francis.  So successful was this idea that it has been copied in every imaginable medium in the 800 years since.

I hope the videos below inspire you to be fellow imitators of Friar Francisco's nativity in your own totally unique way, one that speaks to you about the birth of Jesus.  Merry Christmas!
